Pottery Barn Knock Off How To!

Source: Paisley Pink Polk A Dots

When I saw this on Pottery Barn's website I knew that it would be perfect for my sister. It's totally her style. It's not for sale through the website anymore, but I can only imagine the price tag on something like this!
Photos from Pottery Barn here.

So, I decided that I should just make my own! I used a 20x16 canvas that I got at a garage sale for $2. I read on Little Blue Boo's blog about mod podging newspaper or phone book pages on your canvas to be able to sand it down at the end, and give it a more rustic and distressed finish.

Planters From Pavers!

Source: DIY Ideas
Step One:
Form the sides of the planter. On a flat surface, place four 12X12-inch or 8X16-inch pavers on edge to form a square. Tilt one paver over and lay a bead of landscape-block adhesive along each mating side. Then replace the paver. Do the same to the paver on the opposite side of the square. All four seams of the square should now be adhered. Make any needed adjustments to ensure that the pavers form a true square.

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap!

FIRST OFF: This is not my post! It was just SO impeccable, I could NOT have written it better so I cut and pasted it here. However the brilliant writer of this piece can be found at  I Can Teach My Child

We're in the process of implementing our newly-created budget.  I'm finding that I REALLY don't like to spend money on boring stuff because that takes away the money we can use to do fun things (or to pay down our mortgage)!  A few of our biggest and most boring "budget-busters" are dishwashing detergent, dog food, organic milk ($15 A WEEK...the boys drink SO MUCH milk), and laundry detergent.  I can't ever seem to find good deals on these items and it drives me crazy!

When I ran across the idea to make homemade laundry detergent for basically one cent per load...I was ecstatic! I used the recipe found on the Duggar Family site.  I've never watched the show (since we don't have cable), but I figured they were experts with the number of loads of laundry they do with all their children!

Here are the ingredients you'll need to pick up:

Rainbow Stripe Floor

kate spade colorful floor
Source: Decor Hacks

This awesome colorful stripey floor was spotted at a Kate Spade store and snapped by Rebecca June. This view of the floor looks like tape to me, so with ten seconds and the Google search “vinyl floor tape” I determined that there is, indeed, such a thing as vinyl floor tape, and it comes in more colors than I would have guessed. It’s used for demarcations on warehouse flooring and gymnasium floors, and it isn’t even that expensive. It might be hard to find tape in Kate Spade’s primo palette, though!

vinyl tape
My favorite vinyl tape colors (and selection) was found at: The 5s Store

1/4 inch tape comes in a bunch of colors and is only $2 per roll
1 inch tape is about $3.25 a roll
2-inch and 3-inch tape also available for a bit more money and in fewer colors

Please, someone out there buy this tape and make an awesome floor design with it!

Paper bags, old newspapers, fabric scraps -- you're probably already using them for eco-friendly gift wrap. But did you know you could create beautiful bows from the pages of our magazine?
You'll need a page per bow (best if mostly one color) and some double-sided tape.
